How to create a new presentation, document, or webpage in Gamma

Learn how to start a new Gamma AI project using Generate, Paste, or Import and choose the best workflow for presentations, docs, and webpages.

Gamma AI gives you several ways to start a new project depending on what you already have. You can generate a first draft from a prompt, paste existing text to turn it into a clean visual layout, or import a file, deck, or webpage URL.

Choose the right way to start in Gamma

If you are brainstorming from scratch, the best option is usually Generate. If you already wrote the copy in ChatGPT, Google Docs, Notion, or your notes, Paste is often faster. If you already have a PowerPoint, document, or webpage, Import is the most practical workflow.

1. Generate

Use Generate when you want Gamma AI to build the first structure for you. Enter a topic, describe the goal of the content, and let Gamma produce a draft you can refine later.

2. Paste

Use Paste when you already have text prepared. Gamma will reorganize the content into a more readable visual format, which is useful for turning raw notes into a deck or a document.

3. Import

Use Import when your content already exists as a file or URL. This is useful for converting existing materials into a Gamma-friendly format without rebuilding everything manually.

How to create a new project in Gamma AI

  1. Open your Gamma dashboard.
  2. Click Create New AI.
  3. Select Generate, Paste, or Import.
  4. Complete the prompt, pasted text, or uploaded source.
  5. Review the draft Gamma creates.
  6. Edit the result card by card until it matches your final structure.

How to refine the result after generation

Once the draft is ready, you can improve it using Gamma AI editing tools. Click the sparkle icon on a card to rewrite, shorten, expand, or restructure the content. This is one of the fastest ways to turn a rough first pass into something client-ready.

How to start without final images

If you want to focus on copy first, choose a text-first workflow. A practical option is to generate without images or leave placeholders, then add visuals after the structure and messaging are approved.
